Categories Category Overview

When a person seeks to become part of the Jewish community, they engage in an extended period of intense study about Jewish traditions and customs. Individuals often frequently meet with a member of the clergy, and actively participate in a Jewish community. At the time of their conversion, they meet with a beit din, traditionally, at least three rabbis, who ask a variety of questions to the conversion candidate about their Jewish journey. The formal act of conversion culminates in a person immersing themselves in the ritual bath, a mikveh, and reciting the Shema, Judaism’s declaration of faith.
