Prayers and Blessings

Berakhot, or blessings, are special types of prayers that are recited in both services or for specific occurrences and events. This includes various benedictions that thank and praise G-d. What distinguishes berakhot from other prayers is that they begin with the Hebrew word “baruch,” meaning to bless or praise. In every instance, a blessing is recited to praise God. Berakhot are typically divided into two categories: blessings of thanks to God and blessings before performing mitzvot, commandments.
